Richard Gibbs - Criminal Fraud & Proceeds of Crime
Richard specialises heavily in cases of fraud and financial crime and has recently concluded a 14 week trial representing a defendant accused of funding organised crime.
He has a proven ability to rapidly understand the technical details of offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act and general financial crime concepts; such as money layering and laundering as well as matters arising from and through alleged MTIC fraud. His thoughtful and enquiring mindset enables him to gain a full understanding of the details in such cases speedily.
He is adept at conveying complex concepts in a straightforward manner to juries and his reputation as a natural jury advocate means he is a highly effective advocate in cases containing issues of fraud or alleged dishonest.
His strong reputation as a natural trial and jury advocate with a high success rate in all areas of his work and a clear track record of devising and presenting complex legal arguments in an effective and decisive manner.
Throughout his time at the Bar, Richard has represented numerous defendants in matters of confiscation through POCA and under CJA and he is a thorough and effective negotiator in these scenarios as well as being known for his ability to identify important points of law upon which to mount legal arguments prior to and during the course of proceedings which have vastly reduced the liabilities of those against whom confiscation proceedings have been mounted.
Richard has a busy practice defending and prosecuting serious crime in the Crown Court and his practice encompasses a range of matters, from drugs, violence and robbery to firearms, fraud, organised crime, rape and sexual offences.
