Philip Vollans - Crime

Philip has a diverse and UK-wide practice focused on complex criminal matters. He has an array of experience in the Crown Court conducting trials and providing mitigation on behalf of his clients. Instructed on behalf of the prosecution and for the defence, he has been instructed in cases ranging from violent assaults and murder through to international smuggling, large scale frauds, and tax evasion.

Philip has represented members of the military and their families at both Crown Court and at Court Martial; and has thorough knowledge of other specialist areas including both Extradition and complex financial proceedings.

Philip undertakes private Magistrates' work in relation to motoring offences, domestic incidents, and public law matters; and has regularly cross-examined Police Officers in relation to their conduct during investigations.

Philip is a Grade 2 Prosecutor and is regularly instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service. He is often approached to provide assistance to senior members of the Bar in complex  cases including serious sexual offences, historical abuse, and complex financial proceedings. Philip shows a strong resilience and determination as a junior; and is highly regarded for his hard work and rigorous analysis of the case and the support he provides to leading counsel.

Philip possesses an in-depth knowledge of confiscation hearings both in relation to Prosecution and Defence, and has appeared in many cases; navigating difficult and complex areas of law in order to obtain the best outcome for his clients.

Philip was recently seconded to the Crown Prosecution Service as a Senior Crown Prosecutor. Acting in an advisory role, he is liaising closely with government departments, and constabularies regarding the investigation of cases; evidential procedures; and the legal implications. Philip has advised on a wide array of areas including serious sexual assaults, violent assaults, frauds, Public Interest Immunity; and confidential investigations involving members of the armed forces.

Philip has worked alongside the Independent Police Complaints Commission and continues to advise on investigations regarding misconduct of officials in public office.
