Kirsty Gallacher - Family

Kirsty practices exclusively in family law.


Kirsty regularly conducts cases of a complex nature, above her year of call.  Kirsty represents Local Authorities, parents, intervenors and children in child care proceedings in the County Court and High Court involving but not limited to non-accidental injury, sexual abuse, the death of a parent and fabricated and induced illness cases and proceedings involving disputed expert evidence in suspected shaken baby cases.

Kirsty appears in the High Court, most notably in cases concerning an international element and issues of jurisdiction or habitual residence.  Kirsty is often called upon to advise and conduct cases concerning the placement of children abroad, relocation and child abduction.

Kirsty represents parties in committal proceedings in the High Court and has been instructed in cases involving the Tip Staff and orders for disclosure and the recovery of children.

In private law she is instructed in contested residence and contact disputes including enforcement of contact and applications to remove from jurisdiction. Kirsty has acted for parents and intervenors in findings of fact with particular experience in allegations of sexual abuse and domestic violence. She is often instructed in the most complex cases where the child is separately represented. 

Kirsty has appeared in the Court of Appeal and been led by Queen’s Counsel.

Ancillary Relief:

In matrimonial proceedings Kirsty is regularly instructed in high net worth cases including those involving substantial business interests with particular interest in cases involving proceeds of crime and linked confiscation proceedings. She is able to provide advice and representation on ancillary relief proceedings with a particular interest in non-disclosure and international property. 

Cohabitation/trust of land:

Kirsty provides advice and representation in TOLATA claims and is often called upon to provide advice at the initial stages and draft pleadings.

Further experience:

She judges mooting competitions and lectures at the University of Birmingham for the Post Qualified Social Work Course.  Kirsty regularly lectures on a variety of family law topics.
