Claire Howell - Family

Claire is a family law specialist whose work extends to TOLATA cases. Claire has also appeared in Court of Protection cases, including at final hearing. Claire was called to the Bar in 2006. Prior to joining No5, Claire was a tenant at a successful family set in the East Midlands.

Public law children work

Claire frequently represents local authorities, parents, children and other parties at all stages of care and adoption proceedings, including complex fact finding hearings over a number of days. Claire’s work in this area has involved issues of serious domestic violence, sexual abuse, non-accidental injury including serious injuries to infants and chronic neglect.

Child arrangements - private law children work

Claire represents clients in all aspects of private law disputes in front of Magistrates, District and Circuit Judges and in the High Court at all stages of proceedings. Claire’s clients include parents, children, grandparents/other family members both on instruction from solicitors and directly from the public. Claire’s work in this area has included serious issues of non-accidental injury, sexual abuse and caregiver fabricated illness. Claire has represented parties in intractable disputes involving allegations of parental alienation and other complicated matters involving Rule 16.4 Guardians and finally, cases with an international element.

Financial provision

Claire is able to offer advice and representation at all stages of proceedings including MPS applications and acting for intervenors.

Injunctions proceedings

She has conducted many hearings in relation to injunction proceedings and is particularly popular in all areas involving vulnerable clients or witnesses.

Claire has a down to earth and pragmatic approach and is able to put her clients at ease quickly. She is popular in cases involving vulnerable clients, including on instruction from the Official Solicitor. Whilst remaining courteous towards opponents, Claire is robust in pursuing her clients interests.
